Where did Fathers Day come from?

Father's Day originated in the United States it's credited to Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Spokane, Washington. who wanted to recognise the sacrifices her father made while raising her and her siblings as a single parent. Inspired by the newly established Mother's Day, she put forward for a similar holiday to honour fathers.

The first Father's Day celebration in the United States took place on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington. But it was not until 1972 that President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation officially designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.
